Update: Police identify man gunned down in Randpark Ridge shootout as taxi boss

RANDPARK RIDGE – Gauteng Police Commissioner, Max Masha, as well as other police and emergency services are on the scene and an investigation is underway. Traffic in the area is severely affected.

The man who was killed in a shooting on the corner of Ysterhout Drive and Randpark Drive on the afternoon on 11 June has been confirmed by police to be a prominent member of a local taxi association.

Provincial Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela confirmed to media on the scene that the man was gunned down by an unknown number os suspects driving an Audi A3. The suspect(s) stopped at the traffic light alongside the deceased, and opened fire on his blue Toyota Hilux.

“It is understood that the driver of the bakkie is the chairperson of one of the taxi associations here in Randburg,” confirmed Makhubela. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

He added that a case of murder was being investigated, and encouraged community members with information to come forward.
