Two people in critical condition after Linden taxi accident

A Medi-Vac helicopter landed on the nearby rugby fields of Hoërskool Linden to airlift the patient away.

Two people were left critically injured after a taxi driver lost control of his vehicle, crashing through a wall at the corner of 4th Avenue and 1st Street in Linden on 11 June.

City of Joburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi confirmed that one person had been airlifted to hospital via helicopter for further treatment after being treated by paramedics on the scene.

The driver of the minibus taxi apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed through a residential wall, resulting in a number injuries.

ER24 paramedics, along with City of Johannesburg EMS, arrived on the scene at just after 8am. ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said that several patients were found scattered around or in the vehicle.

“On closer inspection, medics found that two women, believed to be in their 40s, had sustained numerous injuries and were in critical condition. Six other people were found with minor to moderate injuries,” said Meiring.

The air-lifted patient remains in critical condition. A Medi-Vac helicopter landed on the nearby rugby fields of Hoërskool Linden to airlift the patient away.

“The remaining patients were transported by ambulances to various hospitals. The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigation,” concluded Meiring.
