Northriding teacher helps to support the SPCA

Supporting animals in need is something close to a North Riding teacher’s heart, especially during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Kylie Jane Naidoo, who is formally from Durban, relocated to Johannesburg in 2016 in pursuit of her teaching career and is currently teaching at Northriding Secondary School. She is one of the Glow TV Miss Uniworld Finalists for 2020. “Just like many young children, I always wanted to have a tiara on my head. But as I grew older I wanted my tiara to serve a purpose, and I am grateful for the pageant for gracing me with such opportunities,” said Naidoo.Recently, she started a pet food and goods drive, Sparkle with Winxy, with the items to be donated to the SPCAs in Randburg and Amanzimtoti in Durban. “

As they are NGOs [SPCAs], they rely on our awesome communities for their support for them to carry on doing such amazing work, saving lives and feeding lives of animals who can’t speak,” said Naidoo. On 29 May, her family on behalf of her delivered 100kg of pet food to the SPCA in Amanzimtoti, and on 9 June a delivery will be made to the Randburg SPCA. “I have reached out to a few retail outlets in Randburg for support, and my appeal to the community is that we can try to support and help uplift organisations in our community. As their numbers grew due to lockdown, more animals needed to be fed and taken care of,” she said.

Uniworld pageants are based on uplifting one another through empowerment using the principles of S-H-E (serve-help-empower). “Being part of this journey, I have realised that I have this amazing vocal platform to stand on and provide my full support for NGOs and people I truly care about. Sparkle with Winxy will be run with the support of my family and friends.”She has also started a blanket drive, Fur-ever your fur-riend, for homeless people in need.”I’m trying to add warmth this winter to our locals who are homeless and the animals at the SPCA. A blanket will cost R40. If it’s cold for you while you are in your bed, can you just imagine how they feel? Please join me in adding some warmth this winter. Your support will truly be appreciated.”
