Man in custody for alleged brutal killing of neighbour’s dog

After viewing videos depicting the lifeless body of the aged small breed dog, it was clear that all the evidence was corroborated by what the officers witnessed at the scene.

The Randburg SPCA secured the arrest of a 36-year-old man after he allegedly brutally killed a miniature pinscher type dog belonging to a fellow resident in their complex on 2 June.

“The individual became violent and uncooperative with our officers and additional backup was called for. The individual claimed that the dog was sent to him by his neighbours who are trying to curse and bewitch him and that he killed the dog because it was ‘satanic’,” said head of inspectorate for the Randburg SPCA Shiven Bodasing. After searching the premises and taking photographic and other evidence, the SPCA officers were convinced that a heinous crime had indeed been committed, as the blood was literally on the walls.

After viewing videos depicting the lifeless body of the aged small breed dog, it was clear that all the evidence was corroborated by what the officers witnessed at the scene. Bodasing added, “The man became excessively violent whilst shouting profanities at our officers.”He said assistance was called in from the Douglasdale police and the individual was later taken into custody where he was facing charges of animal cruelty and malicious damage to property. “We once again thank Douglasdale SAPS for their sterling performance, their dedication is appreciated immensely. It’s simple, we have a zero-tolerance policy towards animal cruelty, it is purposeless and unnecessary.

Animal cruelty is a crime, and I take great pleasure in reminding perpetrators of that.”Randburg SPCA inspector Theo Mahube added, “It was horrific to see, there was something so sinister about this scene. We will be striving for justice, a precedent must be set.” Bodasing concluded that he and the SPCA send their sincere condolences to the owners.”We may not be able to give you the joy your beloved dog brought to you, but we most certainly will fight for the justice you deserve.”The Randburg Sun has contacted the Douglasdale police and is awaiting their comment.
