Randburg steps in to level 4 lockdown

The new level would allow at least 1.5 million workers to return to their jobs and give them and the economy a desperate cash injection. As they returned to work, an increase in traffic and padestrians was clearly apparent.

The wheels that keep the country’s economy turning got a significant boost as many workers returned to work from 4 May. As announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa, South Africa moved down to level 4 of its nationwide lockdown on 1 May.

The new level would allow at least 1.5 million workers to return to their jobs and give them and the economy a desperate cash injection. As they returned to work, an increase in traffic and padestrians was clearly apparent.

As stated by the president, all those in public spaces and at their offices are to wear a fabric face mask at all times while adhering to social distancing protocols. Taxis are permitted to operate at 70 per cent capacity and all passengers must have a face mask on at all times.

Exercising has also been allowed during level 4, allowing the public to jog, or take walks within a five kilometre radius of their homes between 6am and 9am.

It must be noted that under level 4 of the lockdown, only certain sectors are permitted to return to work, whilst the rest of the country remains at home to curb the spread of the virus. To find out more about which industries can return to work, click here.
