How to adopt a new best friend from the Randburg SPCA

NORTH RIDING – The Randburg SPCA sheds light on the pet adoption process.

The Randburg SPCA has taken this opportunity to remind Randburg Sun readers how the adoption process at the SPCA is done.

This article caters to Randburg residents specifically. Please see the diagram for residents who live outside of the Randburg area, and who would like to adopt from the Randburg SPCA.

Right from the start, remember that before the home check is conducted to bring your new furry friend home, applications must be accompanied by a proof of residence, a copy of your ID, as well as a signed letter of permission, if applicable. The process begins with choosing an animal to adopt.

If you have dogs, this will be followed by a compatibility test at the SPCA followed by an adoption application with a R50 non-refundable deposit to submit the paper work. If you do not have dogs, prospective families proceed from having chosen your pet, straight to the application form.

The application form will be followed by a visit by SPCA inspectors to your home followed by feedback from the inspectors. If you are approved, applicants pay an adoption fee which is R800 for dogs and R700 for cats. The fee helps the SPCA sterilise, microchip, vaccinate and deworm your new pet.

This is done at the vet. Afterwards, your new pet will be ready for collection within 24 hours of their visit to the vet for you take them to their new home.
