The Linden Bowling Club in 3rd Street has served the community for more than 60 years.
The club continues to offer not only what are possibly the two best greens in the region, but a magnificent clubhouse and facilities which offer a view to behold.
They sensibly shut down all activities two weeks ago in accordance with the government proclamation, with their groundsmen meticulously maintaining their two champion greens during the lockdown for when life gets back to normality. The new normality will be different, but the club expressed that Linden Bowling Club will still offer the same friendly welcome to old and new bowlers alike. Their bowlers consist of members between the ages of 12 and 90, from all walks of life. All will be welcomed.
The club are proud to have two past Protea Commonwealth Games gold medallists, Esme Haley and Tracy-Lee Botha, as members. They also boast five current players in the Johannesburg Bowls Association Provincial women’s teams and at the recent inter-provincials, two of their players achieved gold with the provincial B side. Their women’s trips teams have won the JBA Trips for the past three years, and Haley recently won the JBA Women’s Singles.
The club’s community outreach programmes include being hosts to the children of Casa do Sol school as well as numerous fundraisers for various cancer charities.
Times have been tough and it’s not only businesses and individuals that have taken a knock, sports clubs such as Linden are also having to dig deep to keep their heads above water. The club hereby offer an open invitation to one and all to experience an enjoyable day out on our greens to celebrate life.
An open day to celebrate this occasion will be held, the date of which will be published in this paper. The Linden Bowling Club guarantees that all will leave with a renewed interest and enthusiasm to play the wonderful game of bowls.
