Covid-19: Socio-economic recovery plan in final stages

At the meeting on Wednesday it was decided that further discussions and consultations were required before a final consolidated plan was approved.

Cabinet will meet on Monday (April 20) to finalise a socio-economic recovery plan for the country.

Minister of State Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, will also submit a report on South African Airways at the meeting.

This follows a virtual Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, April 15 at which representations were made by the five Cabinet clusters which focus on the country’s economic recovery as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The plan was also a result of the recent downgrading of South Africa by ratings agencies Moody’s and the Fitch Group respectively.

At the meeting on Wednesday it was decided that further discussions and consultations were required before a final consolidated plan was approved. The clusters were asked to produce one consolidated document on key priorities on the country’s recovery plan.

Cabinet’s five clusters are made up of the economic sectors, investment, employment and infrastructure development; governance, state capacity and institutional development; social protection, community and human development; international cooperation, trade and security and finally, justice, crime prevention and security.
