Tanna celebrates birthday milestone

RANDPARK RIDGE – Tanna Bailes celebrated her 18th birthday during the national lockdown.

Bush Hill Scout Tanna Bailes turned 18 during the national lockdown. Randburg Sun readers were first introduced to the matric learner through her partnership and donation with childcare facility Village Safe Haven last year. Since then, Tanna has earned her Springbok Scout status and has been focused on school.

Tanna spent her morning being serenaded by her family with a cup of tea, which was a family tradition and apologised for her pyjamas in pictures! The 18-year old had planned a celebratory family dinner with some friends and a movie night for her special day. Tanna admitted that before the national lockdown, she had not given much thought to how she would celebrate the milestone, as she had been focused on her school work and it was two weeks away.

The teenager had some words of encouragement for her fellow matric learners, which can be passed on to all learners during the national lockdown.

“Us as matriculants need to stick together and work as hard as we would at school, despite the temptation of not doing anything productive. Prelims are coming up and we need to focus our time and attention on doing our very best even though it’s not going to be easy. All of us in schools and universities need to have hope that this will pass soon and work as hard as we can during this period.”

Tanna has continued to pursue her goals and achieved various goals both at school and extra-curricular activities outside and including Scouts. She was optimistic and looked forward to another year of life.

“This past year has taught me that if I put my mind to something, I devote myself to completing the goal and in the end achieve it, but not just on my own, but with the people around me motivating me to keep going. This past year has been my most difficult year but I pushed through and made it and I’m excited for the future. I want to carry on making a difference and that is my goal for the upcoming year.”
