WATCH: Zandspruit ward councillor’s message of support

ZANDSPRUIT – Ward 114 councillor Victor Mafinya is proud of his community.

Ward 114 councillor Victor Mafinya has sent out a message of support for the people of Zandspruit to stay safe during the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

“I am proud of our community. Since this morning, I have not seen any hassles, and people are complying with the rules and regulations put into place.”

Mafinya suggested that the Zandspruit community was scared of the spread of the virus, as well as the shortages of food and medicine supplies.

“Our community, as other communities are, is worried about food not being on the shelves, supplies running out and the availability of medicine. I would like to ensure them that provisions have been put into place to make sure that supplies will not fall short and that there is no need to panic buy.”

Zandspruit is an area where many live in very close proximity to one another and levels of hygiene are low due to the lack of access to basic infrastructure.

He added, “At this time, we do not have any severe measures in Zandspruit specifically to curb the spread of this virus. However, we appeal to our community to follow the rules, regulations and advice as given by our President.”

Mafinya reiterated the words of President Cyril Ramaphosa saying that no more than five people should be staying in one place.

“We do understand that there are issues with housing, and the number of people are congested. Community leaders in conjunction with the Zandspruit clinic are on board to help educate the community about all of the protocols that have been put into place to help stop the spread of this pandemic.”

He added that there is a large group of healthcare workers who have been tasked to go street-by-street to help educate the community about the virus.

He concluded that he is happy that the Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre has been identified as a Covid-19 testing centre.
