Curro Aurora learners participated in the school’s annual shavathon in collaboration with non-profit organisation Cansa.
Learners at the school who have participated in the event regularly shared what the shavathon meant to them. Grade 11 learner Shriya Balaram has ceremonially cut her black ponytail every two years at the school’s shavathon. Alexa Cawood is also in Grade 11 and participated in the shavathon by cutting her ponytail in Grade 8 as well as this year. Both learners agreed that it was an easy way to give back to a worthy cause.
Aiden Schutte and Tyler de Meillon both embraced ‘buzz-cut season’ at the 17th annual Cansa Shavathon which took place at the school. Meillon had a particularly difficult time while he cut his hair, although he told the Randburg Sun that is was important for him to participate every year since his family had a history of the disease. As seniors of the high school, both walked away after they embraced the need to set a good example and give back how they can.
All in all, the school was in good spirits on the day and learners displayed a firm grasp of why it was important to help – in any way they can.
