PND goes from strength to strength

KYA SAND – Local NGO continues to go from strength to strength while asserting that they are just getting started.

A local father-and-daughter duo’s project to help the community has grown exponentially since they first shared their story with the Randburg Sun last year.

Judith and David Phiri set out to expand their non-government and public benefit organisation, PND (Planning and Development) Centre for Homework and Study, from a door-to-door community-based schoolwork assistance scheme to a centre dedicated to the assistance of the community in any way they may need.

Since PND connected with a sponsor through the initial article Father and daughter make the change in the Randburg Sun, [Week ending 13 September 2019] the non-profit has broken ground in Pipeline Settlement in Kya Sand. The PND Centre for Homework and Study has since erected the kitchen and storeroom section of their centre, welcomed new staff and awaits the addition of containers to house their computers in the heart of the settlement.

The Phiris welcomed qualified social worker Senamile Mbokazi and security guard Vusumuzi Mhlanga. Both were excited to join the NGO, which has blossomed since, humble beginnings and generous sponsors of September last year.

The centre was hard at work throughout December last year as well as early this year where they organised food and stationery drives for residents in the area. Organisations such as this are especially valued during times of unrest our country finds itself in. The duo emphasised that this is only the beginning and they look forward to growing their reach and impact.
