Quiet streets as lockdown commences

JOBURG – As Covid-19 national lockdown commences our busiest roads get to wind down too.

It’s day one of the Covid-19 national lockdown and an eerie silence has taken hold of our local roads.

Most in our community have taken heed and stayed in the comfort of their homes as a measure to keep themselves and their families safe.

While driving around a quiet community, we came across only a few pedestrians, two cyclists and other commuters making their way to their destinations, perhaps as essential services.

There wasn’t much police presence this morning, however, while on Malibongwe Drive, a Linden Police Station patrol made its way through the neighbourhood headed by the station’s Captain Alex Vermaak, as he made sure those who were on the roads were given permission to do so.

Like our long and winding roads, the next three weeks will too seem long and never-ending. However, it is important we remember that all of us should be looking after ourselves and those we love, for the safety of our community.
