Virgin Active Cresta closed after member tests positive for Covid-19

CRESTA – Virgin Active Cresta has closed temporarily after a gym member tested positive for Covid-19.

Virgin Active in Cresta has temporarily closed its doors after a gym member tested positive for Covid-19.

The health club confirmed this in a statement released to club members via SMS and on social media that one of their customers tested positive for Covid-19 on 18 March.

The customer last visited the gym on the early afternoon of 14 March.

The statement said, “We have been notified that a person under investigation (PUI) has tested positive for coronavirus. The National Institute of Communicable Diseases tracing team has not yet been in contact but we have opted to close the club in a proactive measure to deep clean and disinfect the facility.

“This process is undertaken by our specialist health and hygiene service provider who has extensive experience in disinfection protocol following communicable disease infection.”

The gym said that as an added precaution, they are bolstering their cleaning teams with additional staff and increasing their frequency of cleaning.

The gym also said that as a gesture of goodwill, they will be allowing members to freeze their contracts.

“We have also made online workouts available through our app so you can work out from home,” they said.

This is the second Virgin Active to close due to the virus, after Melrose Arch closed earlier this month.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases could not comment on this specific incident.
