Business burglary suspect sentenced to 7 years’ imprisonment

LINDEN – After a business burglary in Fontainebleau in December 2018, a man was recently sentenced to seven years' imprisonment in the Randburg Magistrates' Court.


Linden police are happy with the sentencing of a man who committed a business burglary in Fontainebleau in December 2018.

The accused was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said the man accessed the building of the business on Maria Street by removing roof tiles.

“Security who had been patrolling nearby noticed someone inside the building through a window. They investigated and when the suspect noticed them he tried to escape by jumping over the palisade fence into Martha Park,” said Matumba.

She added that security officers gave chase and were able to apprehend the suspect.

“The case was assigned to Detective Constable Mahapa who worked very hard during the investigation that eventually led to the conviction.”

The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Linden police encouraged businesses to remain vigilant as incidents of business burglaries and robberies continued to be a problem.
