Sign language volunteer needed at Linden Police Station

LINDEN – Linden police need the help of a sign language interpreter for victim support.

Linden police are on the lookout for a sign language interpreter to help assist deaf victims of crime.

Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said very often the station was visited by deaf victims of crime.

She added, “What is also a sad reality is that some of the time these victims are unable to read or write too. This makes it very difficult to understand what happened to them and open a case, and it is also a problem for victim support.”

Matumba said it was the police’s goal to help every victim of crime that entered their station.

“We want every person, regardless of a disability, to be assisted from start to finish. It is for this reason that we are looking for an individual who can communicate in sign language to assist us in both the client service centre and our victim support unit on a volunteer basis.”
