Lighting the Future

Rand Park High School held its annual Grade 8 inauguration and candle-lighting ceremony in their school hall on 17 January.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Grade 8 parents and has become a popular and memorable school event.

Each learner lights a candle at the ceremony which symbolises the beginning of their high school career.

The event forms part of a week-long programme that is guided by the Grade Tutors and the Leaders to help the youngest members of the school become familiar with the school’s extensive academic and extra-curricular programme, all while making new friendships.

As part of the evening, the learners presented their Grade 8 song to their parent’s to much applause. The song was written by the Leaders of the school and was performed with plenty of enthusiasm by this year’s Grade 8 learner group.

Alan Wilke, the principal of Rand Park High School said, “This event is a popular tradition within Rand Park High School and we wish our newest members of the school every success during their high school years with us.”
