Alleged smokers leave mother battered and bruised

RANDPARK RIDGE – A Randpark Ridge woman received several bruises to her face and body when her attackers allegedly ambushed her in the bathroom of a popular restaurant.

A Randpark Ridge woman was left battered and bruised after an alleged assault at a popular restaurant in the area on 26 January, after she alerted the staff of a to people smoking in a non-smoking section.

Mix Thomson received several bruises to her face and body when her attackers allegedly ambushed her in the bathroom. Thomson states that she had alerted restaurant staff to people smoking near to the children’s play area, which is what prompted the attack.

“They were hiding a cigarette under the table as they knew it was not allowed, so none of the staff could see. I only looked at them because I could smell smoke where there was no smoking allowed… These people were smoking at the table around children, right by the jungle gym,” she said.

Thomson, who has a young asthmatic child, chose to alert restaurant management to the smokers, who were asked by staff to stop what they were doing.

She believed that the smokers found out that it was her that alerted management, and waited for her to use the bathroom.

When she did, she was confronted and an assault ensued.

“I got grabbed and repeatedly hit in the face and on my head and she pulled my hair,” she said.

Thomson speculated that the woman who attacked her in the bathroom was not sober.

“She was so cooked that she even ended up falling on the floor. As I exited the bathroom, she screamed that I hit her and made such a scene,” she continued.

The perpetrators were asked to leave the restaurant, but this did not stop them coming back a while later to continue the fight.

“This led to a huge disruption at the restaurant forcing them to press the panic button and call security. The manager kept me safe and in the loop, and management prevented things from getting ugly from the beginning. It could have been very ugly, but they kept me and all the kids in the area safe,” she said.

Thomson has yet to press charges against her attacker and luckily only received minor injuries from the attack.
