UPDATE: Police yet to confirm Malibongwe Drive CIT heist details

COSMO CITY – Paramedics treated two male guards who were transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

UPDATE 22 JANUARY:

After an apparent cash-in-transit robbery took place on Malibongwe Drive on the evening of 20 January, police have yet to confirm the details surrounding the event.

ER24 paramedics were on the scene at the time of the incident that happened on the far end of Malibongwe Drive, near the R114 near Cosmo City.

According to eyewitnesses on the scene and reports on social media, the suspects allegedly ambushed the vehicle and blew off the doors of the cash-in-transit van.

The suspects then allegedly set fire to both the cash in transit vehicle and a vehicle next to it, which is also believed to have been involved in the ambush.

“The two security guards who fell victim to the ambush were treated on the scene for their injuries, but luckily their injuries were only minor after the assault on them. They were taken to a hospital in Fourways for further treatment,” Ross Campbell of ER24 said.

Campbell also said that Police services were on the scene to conduct their investigation into the incident.

Randburg Sun is still awaiting further confirmation on the details surrounding the event from the Police’s provincial spokesperson.
