Being neighbourly can help to fight crime

LINDEN – The Linden police are encouraging community members to be good neighbours to stay safe over the festive season.

Getting to know your neighbours and helping each other out can help increase safety and crime awareness, this according to the Linden police.

In an effort to help curb the ongoing trend of house robberies and burglaries in the area, the Linden police are encouraging community members to be good neighbours to stay safe over the festive season.

To help, spokesperson for the Linden Police Station Constable Takalani Matumba has issued tips on how to be a vigilant neighbour to help each other out in times of need.

She said that one of the most important things if you have just moved into a new home, is to introduce yourself and your family to the households on either side of your property and across from you,

“Ask one or all of your neighbours if they would be happy to talk about how you can work together to keep your families and your homes safe. A good start is to exchange contact numbers so that you can contact and alert each other in times of need,” she said.

As the festive season is upon us, neighbours are encouraged to make an arrangement to keep an eye on each other’s property and contact others about suspicious people or when they see something that appears out of place.

“Neighbours can even help each other out by doing small chores for the others, such as removing mail from post boxes and turning lights on in the evening on a daily basis to show an active presence at the property.”
