WATCH:Linden filmmakers ace the competition at awards

LINDEN – Hoërskool Linden's talented young filmmakers brought home an outstanding nine awards.

Hoërskool Linden‘s talented young filmmakers brought home an outstanding nine awards after their film took home its honours at the Bright Light Film Academy Gala Evening in Pretoria on 16 November.

Many schools are part of the academy that helps learners to engage in the subject of film as an extramural, culminating in an awards ceremony to award young filmmakers at the end of each year.

This is the first year that Hoërskool Linden has taken part, debuting their now award-winning drama called Jy Eerste, which is the twisty tale of an unconventional sibling bond in a dire time of need.

Drama teacher Nina Janse van Rensburg said, “Our learners put in a lot of hard work. It takes a long time for an idea to move from a plan to reality.”

At the awards, the filmmakers won the award for best makeup, camera work, focus, editing, best continuity, best grown-up male and female role (a non-learner), the people’s choice award, and the best first-year student film of the year.

“Being part of the Bright Light Film Academy helps out learners to learn everything from behind the scenes to writing and directing their material. It helps to get their creative juices flowing,” said Janse van Rensburg.

Schools were tasked to create three short films from start to finish in three different genres, which were a thriller, a drama and a comedy. The best film out of the three was chosen to be judged for the awards ceremony.

Classes were conducted at the school, but all filming was done at multiple separate locations.

“As a drama teacher, I am so proud of the effort our learners have put into this and I am so impressed by their sheer passion. It is a grown-up job and a great level skill, and I am so incredibly proud of them.”
