Rand Park High spreads festive cheer

RANDPARK RIDGE – The Rand Park High School Debutantes celebrate the season with gifts for the previously disadvantaged.

Rand Park High School’s debutantes recently packed 85 Santa Shoeboxes which will be distributed to under-privileged children during the festive season.

The Grade 9 and 10 learners were able to learn the value of involvement in the community through this exercise. The charitable donation formed part of their outreach activities which they are required to participate in as part of the school’s debutante programme.

The Santa Shoebox project has enjoyed 13 years of success. This longevity has been attributed to the fact that it has been a community supported initiative where different stakeholders continued their involvement.

The donated age-appropriate gifts of essential items and treats proceeded to be packed into shoeboxes and specially gift-wrapped for their new homes. The minimum eight required items were a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, a washcloth, sweets, a toy, school supplies and an outfit of clothing. All items were new and unused.
