City hands over 94 title deeds to beneficiaries in Zandspruit

ZANDSPRUIT – The delivery of title deeds is after Ext 10 was proclaimed a township in January 2019.

The City of Johannesburg MMC for Housing, councillor Meshack Van Wyk was joined by outgoing Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba on 14 November to hand over 94 title deeds to beneficiaries in Zandspruit.

Mashaba said, “The number of title deeds that have been handed over under this new administration now stands at 8 095, almost double the number of title deeds the City provided to residents since the dawn of our democracy under previous democracies.”

The delivery of title deeds in parts of Zandspruit follows the proclamation of Ext 10 as a township in January 2019, enabling the City to deliver basic services to the area.

The mayor said the 94 title deeds handed over is the first batch of 406 title deeds to be handed over in Zandspruit.

The City is working on a 701 future site project, innovative ways of addressing the housing challenges in Joburg. The 701 future sites will give residents in the Zandspruit service stands,  where they will be given title deeds to service sections of land to build their own homes.

The housing backlog sits at 300 000 in Joburg, Mashaba added that their top priority is fast-tracking title deeds, “We took an important step in addressing the spatial inequality associated with apartheid-era development planning through the Inner City Revitalisation Programme.”

The programme has attracted over R30 billion in expected investment value with 27 developments currently under way in the city.
