Manhunt for Momberg

RANDBURG – A manhunt has ensued for convicted racist Vicki Momberg after she failed to appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court.

A manhunt has ensued for convicted racist Vicki Momberg who is believed to be in hiding.

This after she failed to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to appeal her crimen injuria case and two-year jail sentence. Gauteng police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters said a warrant for her arrest was issued on 1 August.

Peters urged Momberg to turn herself in saying, “The police are yet to locate and arrest her as per a warrant of arrest that was issued a couple of months back.”

In June this year, Momberg was given 30 days to appeal her judgement and her bail was extended. She was also warned that should she not appear in court subsequently, she would have to serve the rest of her two-year sentence.

Peters also confirmed that the police have been searching residential addresses in search of Momberg. “Police have since, on numerous occasions, visited two addresses, one in Bedfordview and the other in Krugersdorp, with the last visit as recent as this past week and Momberg was not at either of these addresses.”

The former estate agent was found guilty of crimen injuria after a video went viral of her spewing racial slurs at a police officer in 2017.

In June 2017, the Equality Court found that her tirade constituted hate speech and ordered her to pay R100 000 in damages to the police officer who she called the k-word.

She was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, with one year suspended, but was granted bail of R2 000 in August 2018.
