Tanna goes green

RANDPARK RIDGE – Tanna Bailes has worked towards effecting positive change.

Tanna Bailes has exemplified being 17 years old with a vision. The teenager put strategy into action when she could help a childcare facility she heard about on the radio. Through her research efforts and support from her Scout group hall located in Randburg, she collected what she needed to bring her dream to life.

Tanna spoke about the process when she decided where she was going by choosing the childcare facility for her project. She had done the research into greenhouses and was on the hunt for a place where she could implement her plan. After she heard about Village Safe Haven, she got into contact with Michael and Susan Harris who run the facility from their home. The married couple happily accepted her help.

Through the power of social media, Tanna set out to collect the necessary 1 200 bottles for the greenhouse at Village Safe Haven. The Scout was eager to make a difference in her community with her Springbok project. Village Safe Haven is a childcare facility which has given 24 children a safe place to stay. Through this greenhouse and the planted vegetables and fruit trees, the home will be able to sustain themselves and reallocate some of the little resources they received from community members.
