Olivedale Hospital hosts final Pink Friday for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

OLIVEDALE – Olivedale Hospital's Breast Cancer Awareness campaign comes to an end.

Olivedale Hospital’s oncology unit honoured Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Pink Fridays throughout the month of October, dressed in pink tutus and armed with knowledge.

Pink Fridays were designated days focused on breast health, education and the celebrated work done in the department at the hospital – a hop skip and a jump from Malibongwe Road. The festivities continued despite the temperamental weather conditions.

The last Friday of October saw Pink Fridays come to an end at Olivedale Hospital. The hospital hosted a variety of activities for staff and patients who formed part of the oncology family. The staff were treated every Friday by Look Good Feel Better alongside patients for the month as they ‘go through the whole process of breast cancer with the patients’. These were the words of the oncology manager at Olivedale Hospital, Pogiso Tlholoe.

Netcare Olivedale Hospital general manager Linda Bhagaloo enthused they were greatly honoured to host its annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. She was proud of the dedication and commitment from the Olivedale radiation oncology department to organise a month full of activities to support Breast Cancer Awareness. She also extended a big thank you to the community and to all the organisations that were involved:

The wind may have tried to take gazeebos with it, but it was not enough to deter the staff from the festivities at hand. The morning transitioned into a blissful afternoon after made-up faces stomped to the much-anticipated Zumba dance moves in unison to the musical beat.
