Off-duty JMPD officer arrested for murder

COSMO CITY – The officer is said to have shot at the victim's vehicle several times with his service pistol.


On the evening of 3 October an off-duty JMPD officer was arrested for murder, following an altercation with another motorist on South Africa Road.

The incident, which took place in Cosmo City, occurred at about 7.15pm when the off-duty officer, who was driving a white VW Golf made a U-turn and allegedly nearly collided with a blue Nissan Almera. Spokesperson for the department, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the driver of the Almera chased behind the Golf , “There were words exchanged and the occupants of the Almera tried to disarm the off-duty officer.”

He added that the officer fired multiple shots at the Almera with his service pistol.

This incident will be investigated by the SAPS, Independent Police Investigative Directorate, and the JMPD will allow for the law to take its course.
