Crime victims get school support

RANDBURG – Brescia House School students collected care packages for both adult and child victims of crime.

Learners of Brescia House School had a fun time visiting the Randburg Police Station’s victim empowerment centre on 20 September.

The learners had collected care packages filled with toiletries, sanitary pads and cuddly toys for adult and child victims of crime and dropped them off at the centre.

The centre provides victims of crime with love, care and support during their time of trauma.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “The victim support centre helps to provide victims of crime a safe haven away from the bustle of the charge office. We have volunteers that help with trauma counselling, family violence, child protection and sexual offences.”

Matric learner Jodie Pattison said the Grade 7s and 8s of her school ran this initiative every year to donate items of care to those in need at worthy organisations.

She said, “Even though it is a sad situation for the victims of crime, we found it amazing and empowering to give a little help and support to them. We enjoyed visiting the police station and meeting with those that take care of victims in need.”

Maja added, “As the Randburg Police Station, we would like to say a big thank you to the learners of Brescia House School for their efforts and we hope that the learners who visited the station today were enlightened about how we care and support victims of crime.”
