Knights Prep is committed to being a blessing

RANDBURG – Knights Preparatory School lends its hand to CHOC.

On 16 September, Knights Preparatory handed over a cheque valued at R20 000 to an organisation that is very close to their hearts – CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation. The school is committed to being a blessing to their community and has encouraged its learners to do the same, where they can.

Brenda Herbert from CHOC, fondly referred to as ‘Mama Brenda’ attended a special assembly and explained to the learners the importance of CHOC and how the organisation operated. Knights runs weekly donations to the non-profit organisation and wished to take it a step further, explained principal Michelle McMenamin. The cash donation formed the school’s Mandela Day initiative for this year.

McMenamin, emphasised that it was important that the learners did not just contribute to these organisations without understanding how their contributions make a difference to the people they sought to help. Children must be encouraged to nurture a strong sense of empathy for other children who endured difficult circumstances.

CHOC has been the only charity in the country which has facilitated comprehensive countrywide support for children with cancer and other life-threatening blood disorders, as well as their families.
