Grandparents spend the morning at Newton House School

BOSKRUIN – The grandparents were invited to the school to spend the morning seeing what it is their grandchildren get up to during the day.

Newton House School recently invited grandparents of its Grade 0 and 1 learners who on the morning showcased their musical, poetic and instrumental talents.

According to grade head, Barbara Pawlowicz, it was a true privilege for the children to spend some time with their grandparents. “And wow, what memorable morning we shared together,” she said.

Pawlowicz reflected on a saying that goes, ‘a grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.’ As stated by Considerable [https://considerable.com/25-reasons-kids-love-their-grandparents/], some of the reasons children love their grandparents are because, they know lots of stories, they’re willing to get their hands dirty, they are the best audience and most of all, they love their children unconditionally!

The day’s proceedings started with the headmaster, Dr Herbie Staples welcome to the grandparents. This was then followed by meaningful devotions and messages, the Grade 0 and 1 children presented. This was done through some lively songs, poems and a percussion with instruments to the audience.

“This sure brought a tear or more to many grannies and grandpas that were present,” said Pawlowicz.

She added they were incredibly proud of the boys and girls and some of the grandparents were even awarded with fun certificates too. The oldest granddad present on the day was aged 81 and he has 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They also had a grandmother who had come all the way from Lesotho to have some quality time with her grandson at his school. The morning continued back in the learner’s classrooms where they had the opportunity to show their work and books to their grandparents. Afterwards, the children played outside, and the grandparents enjoyed a cup of tea with some fresh sandwiches and delicious scones topped with jam and cream.

The school concluded to thank the grandparents who came along and spent a truly wonderful morning with them at the school.
