Be vigilant of your belongings as the summer approaches

RANDBURG – The Randburg Police Station is warning the public to be vigilant of having their belongings stolen when shopping or visiting restaurants.

As warmer weather approaches, people naturally start to venture outside to do their shopping and have some outside entertainment, sometimes leaving their belongings more exposed.

Due to this, the Randburg police are warning the public to be vigilant of having their belongings stolen when shopping or visiting restaurants after a few incidents of theft recently occurred.

According to Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja, one such case under investigation occurred after a Bryanston complainant’s cell phone was allegedly stolen from her child’s pram pocket while shopping.

He said in the early afternoon of 15 August, the complainant was doing her monthly shopping at a busy Bryanston shopping centre and later discovered that her cell phone was missing and opened a case of theft with the Randburg police.

Maja said, “Due to the number of incidents like this recurring, we would like to warn the community to safeguard their valuables when doing shopping or visiting restaurants. Furthermore, try to avoid wearing expensive jewellery when going into malls to avoid being followed. Always be observant when driving home and if you are suspicious of being followed, call the police or drive directly to your nearest police station.”
