Suspected Fontainebleau car thief arrested

FONTAINEBLEAU – After a short but dramatic police chase, the Linden police have arrested a suspect for theft of a motor vehicle.

 


The Linden police have arrested a suspect for theft of a motor vehicle in Fontainebleau after a short but dramatic police chase.

According to Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba, the incident occurred around 3am of 29 August when patrolling police officers saw a man enter a lone vehicle in an unusual way.

Matumba said, “The suspect entered the passenger’s side of the vehicle and climbed across to the driver’s seat. Police found this unusual, so they approached the vehicle. The suspect attempted to speed away and the police gave a chase until the car lost control and hit the pavement. The suspect got out of the stolen car and tried to run away.”

The police chased after the suspect and apprehended him. The suspect was detained at the station.

Upon searching the vehicle and the suspect, they discovered a screwdriver, pairs of vehicle registration number plates, a silver Volkswagen computer box, and a Toyota and Renault computer box.

The Linden Police’s Station Commander Colonel Ahmed Musthan commended the work done by officers in the arrest.

He said, “I would like to extend a word of congratulations to all police members involved in this arrest, namely Warrant Officer Hattigh, Sergeant Matanganyi, Constable Disegoane, and Constable Sibanyoni.”
