Windsor East residents come together to clean-up their streets

WINDSOR EAST – By starting the clean-up initiative the brothers hope to attract small businesses that will help them in maintaining the streets of Windsor.

Brothers Patrick Kule owner of Mokgotsi Laundry Services in Windsor Eastand and his younger brother Katlego Maripane who are also residents took matters into their own hands and joined other community members to clean up their streets.

They started early on 24 August at the corner of Beatrice Street and Dukes Avenue.

Maripane said, “Patrick and myself have initiated this campaign where we would like to get help from local businesses to join since there seems to be a lack of cleaning of our streets.”

Kule funded this campaign from his own pocket and invited residents to join in the clean-up. “We want to do this continuously and invite any stakeholders who can donate cleaning masks, brooms, and gloves to help.”

The brothers said there was a problem of litter on the streets of Windsor and the clean-up initiative came from them wanting to teach people about the environment and taking care of their surroundings. Maripane and Kule hope to target other ‘hotspots’ in the area that can do with a clean-up.

“We want to target the whole area and collectively we can keep the streets of Windsor clean,” added Kule. “The clean-up was a success, the

turnout was bigger than we thought. Going forward on our side we will communicate better with the community about this initiative.”
