Birthday Bricks bid Randburg farewell
NORTH RIDING – The Randburg Sun and SPCA collaboration to sell #BirthdayBricks has reached a triumphant end, thanks to supportive community members
After 60 days of the #BirthdayBricks campaign, the Randburg Sun and Randburg SPCA collaborative fundraiser has come to an end.
The fundraiser reached its target with some change.
On 1 July this year, Randburg turned 60 years old and in honour of this auspicious occasion, Randburg Sun embarked on the #BirthdayBricks initiative spearheaded by the publication’s journalist Ofentse Moduka. The labour of love aimed to raise money for the non-profit animal shelter. We set out to create awareness of the initiative by publishing articles in our weekly paper and using the power of the Internet.
We were able to sell 105 personalised plaques at R60 each and all proceeds went to the Randburg SPCA. This amounted to R6 300 which was over and above our target of R6 000. Every plaque (which were referred to as bricks) was priced at R60 for every year of the suburb’s existence. The plaques have been put up outside on a brick wall at the SPCA. The general manager of the SPCA, Craig Rudman thanked all stakeholders involved in the fundraiser.
After almost nine weeks of working towards this cause, Randburg Sun would like to extend its gratitude to all the community members who got involved. Thank you. Without all of you, this would not have been possible.
