Wall of fame finale

NORTH RIDING – The last week of the Birthday Bricks initiative is upon us, make your donation today!

The Birthday Bricks initiative with the Randburg SPCA has been a way for the Randburg Sun to embody the Caxton Cares principle!

At the end of July, the Birthday Bricks initiative had raised a recorded R5 400. This was R600 shy of our target of R6 000 which has undoubtedly been smashed due to the insurgence of many more generous donations. With the last week of the fundraiser and the celebration of the suburb’s 60th birthday, here is a look at what has happened.

The Birthday Bricks initiative emerged as a fun way to celebrate six decades of Randburg realness, where plaques valued at R60 were sold to community members. The plaques purchased saw all the proceeds go to the Randburg SPCA and were valued at R60 to match the age of our favourite suburb. The plaques manufactured to date, have been put up on the wall of fame at the SPCA branch in Randburg.

After the initial announcement of the Birthday Bricks, we were contacted by various donors with the largest donation to date valued at R1 860 by the generous Lok family. The Lok family’s donation was featured in the Randburg Sun article #BirthdayBrick drive still solid [Week ending 26 July] where their matriarch Lauren mentioned how caring for animals has been a large focus of the family and that they help wherever they are given the opportunity to do so.

The Birthday Bricks team then made their way to the first SPCA Carnival where we persistently handed out donation forms to passers-by. On this day alone, we were able to raise over R2 000 which was embraced by the animal shelter. Caxton as a company subsequently made a substantial donation of R1 000 to the #BirthdayBricks.

Since then, we have received phone calls from interested parties who wished to add their name to the roster of #BirthdayBrick fame.

We would like to extend our gratitude to all who have contributed to the initiative and encourage the community to join hands and send through their donations as the fundraiser draws to a close on 29 August, 60 days after Randburg’s 60th birthday.
