Suspect arrested for malicious damage to property

FERNDALE – This after the suspect allegedly threw a victim's phone on the ground as well as threw a stone at the victim's car window.

A 23-year-old suspect is expected to appear briefly in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court to face charges of malicious damage to property.

It is alleged that on 1 September, at about 1.26pm the complainant was requested through an app by two suspects to pick them up and drop them off somewhere in Randburg. After the complainant collected two passengers an argument ensued between him and the occupants of the vehicle. He explained he would cancel the trip as they were showing him a different route for him to follow.

According to Captain Makgowanyana Maja, spokesperson of the Randburg Police Station, one of the passengers asked the complainant if he is cancelling the trip but before he could answer, the suspect grabbed his phone, opened the door and ran away. “The complainant chased after them and the one who took the phone, ran back and threw the phone on the ground and broke it.”

Maja added that when the complainant got into his car and began to reverse, the same suspect threw a stone and broke the vehicle’s car window.
