Newton House gets Hooked on Books

BUSH HILL ESTATE – The school was visited by Hooked on Books who showed how reading is fun through an interactive show.

How do you get children interested in reading? Well, Newton House School thinks the best way to do this is to get them hooked on books through interactive fun.

Hooked on Books, an organisation that brings literature to life through imaginative shows, recently visited the school and had the children spellbound from the first scene. Children were captivated through the great acting and exciting props used throughout the show. The organisation held interactive renditions of six children’s literature books which is said to have had the children on their toes as they watched a few of their peers act out various parts.

During this fun time of learning, there was also a superhero face-off for the senior primary class when two teams were challenged in a charades dual show. For the junior primary show, two teams participated in a quiz that challenged their knowledge on snakes.

According to the school’s junior primary vice principal, Carol Drake, “The magical world of reading was shown in a new light.”

She added that the children’s laughter and giggles were contagious.

As the presentation came to an end, the children walked out of the hall talking about the moments they enjoyed and were excited to rush off to the school library to take out the books.
