Rand Park Squires break a record!

RANDPARK – Rand Park High Squires break their fundraising record.

At a glittering Squires’ Ball, the new record of money raised by the Squires who have undertaken various fundraising projects during the past year was revealed to them and their parents.

A total of R814 996 was raised which was more than double that was raised two years ago by the 2017 Squires. The money raised by the Squires is invested in specific projects which improve the facilities of the school.

Alan Wilke, the principal of Rand Park High, congratulated all the boys and their parents on an outstanding fundraising year and thanked them for the invaluable contribution to the school. Each participant kept a tally of their personal fundraising efforts and received fundraising statements from the school’s finance department, but the consolidated amount is kept a closely guarded secret and only revealed at the Squires’ Ball.

Wilke explained, “The school’s official fundraising is done through the Squires and Debutantes programme. Each year we alternate the programme so that the boys can raise funds one year and the girls can do so next year. The programme develops invaluable entrepreneurial skills and other soft skills such has communication, teamwork, time management and customer service. We are very proud of the boys’ achievements in 2019.”

Part of the requirements of the programme is for the boys to work in small groups of two to four people. Together they planned fundraising activities to raise funds collectively. The top Squires’ group raised R31 283 and the boys who were involved were Bryan Robinson, Kyle Strydom, Bradley Ferreira and Dominic Horwood.
