Top Educator Joins Acacia School as the school introduces IEB Curriculum

NORTH RIDING – Acacia Schools welcomes seasoned professional Garreth Murray as their deputy principal and launch the IEB Curriculum in 2020.

Gareth Murray has recently been appointed as deputy principal at Acasia Schools’ high school in North Riding for next year.

His appointment coincides with the introduction of the in-demand IEB (independent examinations board) curriculum at Acacia Schools, where the Cambridge curriculum has been the sole offering. He will bring with him many years of experience in independent schools in South Africa as well as experience at setting and marking IEB matric examinations. He believes the IEB assessment standards are of a very high standard and the board has illustrated great integrity over the many years of its existence.

Not only are the IEB examinations fully accredited by Umalusi in South Africa but also accredited by international universities. This allows South African matriculants to gain entrance into most universities abroad depending on the grades achieved in the final NSC (national senior certificate).

Murray has a BSc (Honours) and HdipEd (PG) from Wits University as well as a manager diploma from Damelin. He has held a number of leadership posts over the years including deputy headmaster at Dainfern College for six years. He is presently a senior life sciences teacher and the career counsellor at St Stithians Boys College where he has spent over 25 years.

Next year, Acacia School will offer the following IEB subjects starting in Grade 10: English, Afrikaans, isiZulu, French, mathematics, life sciences, physical sciences, history, geography, engineering graphics and design, business studies, accounting and art.
