Bogus City workers allegedly rob Windsor victim

WINDSOR WEST – Armed robbers allegedly posing as City workers robbed their female victim on 29 July.

A Windsor West resident fell victim to armed robbers allegedly posing as City workers on 29 July.

Linden Police Station spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said that the female victim was inside her house when she noticed a silver BMW X5 without a registration plate, parked in front of her gate.

When the victim went outside, she noticed that they were carrying screwdrivers, and opened the gate for the occupants of the car.

Matumba said, “When she asked them what they were there to do, they told her that they were there to repair a broken, leaking water meter. Since there was no meter that was leaking, and her gate was open, she tried to stop them from getting inside her house, but they managed to overpower her.”

That the suspects allegedly entered the victim’s house and proceeded to rob her of her belongings.

“We are again advising the community not to open their gates or doors of their houses if they don’t know the person who is ringing the bell from the gate, as they may end up being a victim of crime, especially house robberies. Always confirm who people are and ask for their identification before opening a gate for them.”
