Palesa Mothopi is a Trinitonian achieving her dreams

RANDPARK RIDGE – Palesa Mothopi is a Grade 11 learner enthralled in the performing arts, with big dreams and a work ethic to match!

Palesa Mothopi adjusted her spectacles as she settled at the head of the semi-oval shaped table which smelled like wood polish. The Grade 11 learner at Trinityhouse eagerly delved into everything which has led her to this moment, as her braids tried to keep up with her animated movements.

Palesa grew up in a small town in the North West and relocated to join the Trinity class of 2020 at the beginning of this year. The young performer started acting by accident and can be thought of a child star as she featured in adverts before school took over. The young star progressively became invested in the performing arts, after she found herself thinking, “I genuinely like this… it’s a passion of mine,” which included dancing, acting, and singing.

The family has always been a priority to the performer on the rise, as she often mentioned them and how they form part of her life. After the loss of her older brother in 2017, Palesa expressed gratitude to have a new baby brother who she enjoyed spending time with.

The teenager has already secured a scholarship to study at the New York Film Academy after being exposed to the structure of the programme through competitions she entered since 2017. She reminisces auditioning with the ‘aim’ to secure the scholarship. After the third time, her goal became a reality.

A self-confessed Netflix addict, she beamed that the news came after she had researched the lead actress of Netflix Original Movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before Lana Conor. The fact that she schooled at NYFA pleased Palesa and she subsequently found out that post-matric, her dream would be realised as she would also join their student body and ultimately become an alumna of the same institution her favourite actress attended.

“I am a dreamer. I think I dream every day… I am Palesa and I can do anything that I want to. I am always thinking about what I can do next, and what I can do. I think my brain is always expanding”.
