CAXTON CARES: Love and support for Zandspruit children on Mandela Day

ZANDSPRUIT – The Randburg Sun, Wild Falcon Spur and Storyville Montessori helped the children of Zamokuhle After Care.

The Randburg Sun, Wild Falcon Spur and Storyville Montessori had an amazing day giving back to the young children of Zamokuhle After Care on Mandela Day.

The children eagerly awaited to indulge in sandwich packs donated by Spur, followed by cake and sweets donated by Storyville Montessori, situated in Sonneglans.

Spur also donated children’s clothing to the children, generously donated by the patrons of Wild Falcon Spur in Blackheath.

Sihle Makama from Wild Falcon Spur said, “On this special day, Spurs across the country are doing amazing things for the community of South Africa.

“We saw it fit that we at Wild Falcon Spur do something special locally for the children of Zandspruit, so today we brought some ready prepared food for lunch, as well as donated items given to us from our customers. For that donation, we would like to extend a huge thank you. We just want to share some of the love and service that you will find in our restaurant with those who need it most.”

Wild Falcon Spur encouraged their customers to donate items for their Mandela Day activities, and customers were generously granted a R50-meal voucher for their efforts.

“We are going to leave the donation box with Zamokuhle with some meal vouchers so that if anyone ones to donate more items they can,” said Makama.

Owner of Storyville Montessori Tshego Mohube said, “Every year for Mandela Day, we partake in an initiative like this. Our parents love to donate items such as old toys, clothing and children’s furniture, and it was also great to make a food donation.

“We chose to help this school as there is a great need. The children here need extra love and care as a lot of them come from an environment that is not wholesome. We have chosen to adopt this school for our initiates throughout the year, we understand what they need.”

Zamokuhle’s Ntabiseng Princess Kwakwari added, “We are always so happy to receive love and support from our community. We are so thankful and we are truly blessed.”

The event formed part of Caxton’s Caxton Cares initiative. Editor of Randburg Sun and Northcliff Melville Times, Aimee McGill commented on the day spent with the little ones. “It is only by spending time with these children that we really understand how great the need in our informal settlements is. To see how happy they were, just for a visit, a sandwich and a piece of cake, opens our eyes to how little they really have. It was a privilege to spend our Mandela Day with these beautiful children, and we hope that they enjoyed it as much as we did,” said McGill.

McGill would like to encourage readers to get involved and assist the children of Zamokhule After Care, not just for Mandela Day, but going forward. “We would like to offer our offices as a drop-off point for these children. Should you have old clothes, toys, stationery, and any other items that these children could use, please feel free to deliver to us, and we will take it to them on your behalf. We would also take donations of food and fruit, which we will get to them urgently.”

Should you wish to donate, the address is 1187 Cornelius Street, Weltevreden Park.
