Greenside High learner forms part of winning Gauteng Minquiz team

GREENSIDE – Erich Marais wins first place as part of the Gauteng team participating in the national Minquiz competition.

Greenside High School is incredibly proud of matric learner Erich Marais who formed part of the Gauteng team which won the Minquiz for the second year running.

Mintek is South Africa’s national mineral research organisation and is one of the world’s leading technology organisations specialising in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy.

Each year, Mintek hosts a competition called Minquiz, which tests learners’ knowledge of science, maths, and technology and is open to matric learners doing maths and science.

This year’s provincial competition was held on 16 May. Greenside High entered a team of four learners including Erich, Aadil Asmal, Thandeka Moyo and Megan Chhiba. The school came second in the province with Erich scoring a position in the Gauteng provincial team based on his excellent performance in the written test.

The national competition was held in Johannesburg on 3 and 4 July. The Gauteng team for the oral quiz included Erich, Ryan Cox of Randpark High and Mohamed Mosam of Parktown Boys High School.

Erich came second in the country in the written competition, while the Gauteng team won Minquiz for the second consecutive year.
