Concerns raised over building

PREAGVILLE – A large building had construction work come to a halt a few months ago on Malibongwe Drive.

Residents who make use of Malibongwe Drive near Hans Schoeman Drive during their daily commute may have noticed a large building where construction work came to a halt a few months ago.

Some concerned residents have contacted the Randburg Sun wondering what the building is, why the construction work stopped, and what damage has been caused to the construction site as the building has no roof.

According to Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood, the building in question is the new Randburg offices for Johannesburg Water, which will allow for better municipal water management and projects to help the water infrastructure in the Randburg area.

Wood said, “From what I understand, the contractor working on the building ran into financial difficulties and have moved off-site.”

According to Wood, Johannesburg Water have re-tendered and received a new contractor, and construction is said to continue in July/August.

“The site is secured and there are no valuables or material that can be harmed by the elements in the interim.”
