Cell phone robbers behind bars

BRYANSTON – Three suspects are to face charges of robbery in the Randburg Magistrates Court after a robbery on Bryanston Drive.


A trio of aggressive suspects is to face charges of robbery in the Randburg Magistrates Court after a robbery on Bryanston Drive on 23 June.

According to Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja, their victim was walking with a group of friends when approached by the suspects.

Maja said, “The suspects requested the victim to call a taxi for them, but when the victim said he does not have airtime or data, the suspects grabbed him by the neck. The other two friends then ran away.”

The victim’s two friends returned to help their friend when they saw the suspects assaulting the victim.

One suspect took the victim’s cell phone and ran away.

The victim saw nearby police and security vehicles and informed them about the incident.

Maja continued, “The officers started to search for the suspects. They were found in the vicinity and the stolen cellphone was recovered in their possession.”

The three suspects were immediately placed under arrest.

“The management of the station would like to thank the security officers for their cooperation. We would also like to further urge more security companies to come on board in order to fight crime in initiatives together to create more successes like this.”
