An open day for billing woes

FERNDALE – Hundreds of residents in the Region B area flocked to the Ferndale Recreation Centre to meet City officials to voice their concerns over issues in their rates and billing.

If you have an issue with your municipal billing, you may feel that you are alone in your troubles.

But those who visited the City of Joburg’s Region B billing open day on 19 and 20 June very quickly realised the extent of the billing crisis in the city.

“This is once again an indication that the City is taking any billing crisis seriously. There has been a tremendous response and I have seen a lot of people leaving here with solid resolutions,” said Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood.

The open day has been taking place in various regions across the city over the past week, including an open day for billing in Region E held at the Sandton Fire Station, and an open day for Region C in Roodepoort.

The open day allowed residents to voice their concerns over billing issues over a course of two days.

Resident’s queried incorrect billing, meter readings and even vehicle licensing.

“This really was a one stop shop for people with issues on their bills to come forward and get sorted out,” added Wood.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said, “This was a great chance for those with billing issues to meet officials face to face and voice their concerns. What brought this on was the high number of historic billing issues, and there is a massive backlog of queries.”

Potter noted that similar open days may take place in the future, and residents should take note about them when further information is released.
