Taekwondo kids battle it out

BROMHOF – Youngsters from dojang's across Gauteng competed in a junior championship at KJD Martial Arts Academy.


Little ones enjoyed high flying kicks and parries of punches when the KJD Martial Arts Academy hosted other taekwondo opponents from across the country in a championship on 8 June.

The academy hosted a junior’s championship in World Taekwondo Federation Olympic Style.

Taekwondo dojangs from Kimberley, Vanderbijlpark, Centurion and Randburg took part in the tournament.

Lorraine Lee of the academy said, “What was really special is that there was a nunchakus demonstration by the Randburg team that wowed the crowd. It was a fun day and lots of medals and trophies were achieved by the little ones. We would like to give a big congratulations to all those who participated.”

Referee for the event, Grand Master Eun Woo Lee is a 9th dan black belt and first class international referee.

Eun Woo said, “I would like to extend a big well done to all of the participants. It was nice to see everyone have such a great time at this championship.”

Lorraine added, “Taekwondo is a full contact sport and there is lots of excitement during these champs. If you don’t fully understand what taekwondo is all about, come take a look and you will see how fun it can be.

“We also teach children physical motor coordination and how to express themselves verbally. We accept children from four years old upwards and cater for all ages into adulthood.”
