A fire has reportedly raged through Zandspruit, destroying between 15 and 20 shacks in the area.
Firefighters were on scene and the blaze was under control.
Member of the provincial legislature, Kate Lorimer confirmed the fire on Twitter:
An appeal has been made for shoes,clothes,blankets, mattresses, pillows, food, building materials to rebuild shacks, pots, plates, stoves. Anybody who would like to donate can drop off at our Randburg Sun offices – 1187 Cornelius Street, Weltevreden Park, during office hours.
Details remain unclear at this stage as to the cause of the incident, or the severity of the damage, but Randburg Sun will update this report as soon as more information becomes available.
