Derby day keeps smiles on families and the Newton House School

RANDBURG – The derby day at Newton House School brought joy to everyone.

Newton House School aims to be a place where your child is their priority from restoring their self-confidence, to advancing their academic ability and embracing extra-curricular activities.

“We are a school for children who are experiencing learning difficulties and who need help coping at school,” said the school’s vice principal, Kim Langefeld.

Newton House School recently hosted a Soap Box Derby that turned out to be more than just a sports day. Langefeld said the day was a fun-filled family outing with all the proceeds allocated to the Newton House Care Fund. She added that the express purpose of this fund was to assist families within the school who may have fallen upon hard times and are in need of financial assistance.

She continued that every child, from grades 0 to 9, took part in driving and pushing the karts as their two school houses, Crowned Eagle and Martial Eagle, challenged each other to complete the most laps within the specified time limit.

Langefeld also said that each child received a sponsorship form consisting of 30 squares in a chequered flag design. For each R10 donation received by friends and family, one square was coloured in on this flag. A full sponsorship form was therefore worth R300.

She concluded that the event had food and drinks on sale and they also encouraged families to bring camping chairs and picnic blankets so they could make the most of the exciting and entertaining morning.
