Security officers apprehend robbers

RANDPARK RIDGE – Security officers are said to have foiled an armed robbery at a home on Dale Lace Avenue.


An armed robbery occurred at a business on Dale Lace Avenue on 7 May.

Honeydew Police Station spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “The main complainant was a receptionist who let the suspects in when they buzzed at the gate. A black vehicle entered the property, one of the suspects got out and walked into the reception area.”

According to the spokesperson, the suspect then threatened the receptionist with a firearm, demanding to know where the other employees were.

“The victim then showed the suspect where the other employees were, and she saw a further two males exiting their vehicle. All employees were taken to a store room where they had their valuables taken off them and were told to be quiet.

He added that after the suspects stole items to the value of R315 000, the victims were locked in the store room as the suspects attempted to make their escape.

Fidelity ADT reaction officer Jackson Nhlapho was patrolling in the area at the time and saw something was not right. According to Fidelity ADT, Nhlapho apprehended one of the suspects in Sycamore Street and the other was apprehended by another security provider in the area who witnessed the suspect jumping from house to house.

The Honeydew police confirmed that they had apprehended and arrested two of the male suspects involved in the armed robbery, while one suspect remains at large.
